Kahala, located in Honolulu, has a long and interesting history. It was first settled by Native Hawaiians in the late 1700s and later became known for its cattle and pig farms in the 1800s. In the 1980s, Kahala faced a unique challenge when 31 lots in the area were purchased by a Japanese businessman, Genshiro Kawamoto, and left vacant for years. This caused concern within the community, but eventually, all lots were sold in 2013, bringing stability back to the neighborhood.​
